February 7th - Penarth beach

Decided to try the beach near the groynes over low water. Fished from 4pm with low at 7.30ish. Baits were lugworm, squid and some frozen peeler crab.
Barrelreef had the 1st fish a small codling...2nd cast.
Valleyboyo followed it up with a codling of 3/4lb, then Barrel had a codling of 1&1/2lb (felt bigger on the way in).
Valleyboyo had another 2 codling the biggest around 1/2lb
Best baits were lug/crab cocktails and all fish were caught before low water

Barrelreef - 2 codling
Valleyboyo - 3 codling

February 18th - Mumbles pier (Brandon's charity competition)

Valleyboyo and Barrelreef fished Brandon Jones' (British shore cod Record holder) Charity competition to raise money for Caerphilly childrens centre.

Fishing was from 6pm til 10.30pm. Not really a serious comp..more of a fundraiser
We got on the pier a little late at 5.45pm and all the better spots had gone so we settled to fish the 1st knuckle casting towards Swansea.
We used lug, rag, mackerel and squid.

Lots of bites as it got dark but no hook ups - crabs probably.
Barrelreef managed a dogfish near the end.
Valley boyo blanked.

Besides us not catching a lot we had a good laugh. Over £800 for the childrens centre was raised.

February 21st - Porthcawl pier

High water was at 11.30pm with a strong NE wind. We fished from around 8ish on the end.
Baits for the evening were ragworm, squid and mackerel.
The wind started off ok but picked up later and made fishing difficult.
Valleyboyo got things started with a double shot of small whiting. The small whiting carried on biting, with Wilba also catching some small ones. Barrelreef had a nice bite just before high and reeled in a lovely whiting of 1 & 1/2lbs along with another a small one.
Carried on til about 12ish with whiting still being caught and a pouting putting in an appearance.

Barrelreef - 3 whiting (one good 'un)
Valleyboyo - 8 whiting
Wilba - 4 whiting, 1 pouting

February 25th - Ogmore deeps

With a strong NE wind the deeps was one of the only marks we could think of that would be sheltered. We fished from 3pm til 8pm with high water at 5.30pm. Baits used were lugworm, mackerel, squid and frozen peeler crab.
It was very quiet to start with and most of us were getting snagged every cast....a move 30 yards to the right moved us a way from the snags.
We started to have bites as darkness neared, and 1st fish was caught by Barrelreef on a lug/crab bait....a decent whiting of just over 1lb.
Smaller whiting continued to be caught with lug being most effective.
Blackcat managed a double shot later on with one whiting near the 1lb mark. All other fish caught were undersize.
Blackcat finished with the most fish. Valleyboyo wasn't best pleased and reckoned Blackcat was just a lucky ******.

Barrelreef - 2 whiting (1 good 'un)
Blackcat - 6 whiting (1 good 'un)
Valleyboyo - 2 whiting
Wilba - Blanked
