Welsh Danglers reports

1st November Penarth pier

Something a little different for this report..............................................
This session was planned for the school holidays for Barrelreef to take his two little girls (Erin and Cailin) on their 1st fishing trip. The pair of them have been nagging for ages to go fishing!
It was decided Penarth pier would be the safest option but may also give a chance of whiting and pouting.

We arrived at the pier around 1pm with high water at 3pm. Erin and Cailin were armed with they're little starter rods, small weights and hooks while Barrelreef and Valleyboyo took a beachcaster each and some mackerel and squid for bait.

The girls didn't want to cast so mini running ledgers were set up and baited with bits of mackerel on size 10 hooks and lowered over the side of the pier.

While the they were waiting for a bite they thought it was great having a little wander about and looking at other people catching. They especially liked it when one guy reeled in a small strap conger.

Around high water Erin had her 1st bite and with a little help reeled in to find a crab on the hook which she was well happy with.
A little while later Cailin had a knock and also with some help wound in to find her very 1st fish, a nice little whiting that really put a bend in the 3 foot rod.
Erin then caught a small crab just before it was time to leave.

Only one fish and two crabs to show for the girls 1st fishing trip but they were both very happy having both caught something and they cant wait to go again!

Barrelreef and Valleyboyo both blanked.............outfished by a 3 and 4 year old!!!!

11th November Penarth beach

Valleyboyo and Barrelreef made a joint decision to fish the beach,  a little cover from the westerly wind and some easy fishing with the chance of codling............. so we thought!

We fished from 8pm til 1am with high water at 11pm and to be honest the fishing was really poor. We used fresh peeler crab, rag, mackerel and squid and didn't even have a bite between us.

Blackcat reckoned Valleyboyo and Barrelreef are crap at choosing places to fish and next time it's his turn.

18th November Cardiff Foreshore

The return of Wilba to the Welsh Danglers!!
This session had been planned for a few weeks with Wilba travelling down to rejoin the Danglers for a session.
When the trip was planned the foreshore was fishing quite well but recent reports were not good! Against our better judgements we decided to stick to the plan rather than fish elsewhere.

After the hike to the marks we started fishing around 2pm with high water at 5ish. We had some quality baits fresh peeler crab (big uns) plenty of blow lug, some ragworm plus the usual mackerel and squid.
The forecast was a bit dodgy with strong winds and heavy showers but luckily we only had one small shower and the wind was non existent.

Valleyboyo was 1st to catch a small whiting, then a little later Wilba also managed a small whiting. Maybe the session wouldn't be that bad after all we thought.

Then it went quiet til after high when Teggy managed an undersized whiting.
Just after that Wilba hooked a decent fish and he said by the way the it was nodding could be a codling unfortunatly the fish came off just below the surface. Blackcat also lost a decent fish this way.

We fished on til around 7pm but had no more bites.
With the weather quite mild and dry Teggy decided to take off his floatation suit to walk back to the cars. He then carefully placed it on top of valleyboyo's box, which was on his back and Valleyboyo unknowingly carried it all the way back to the car for him.
When realising he had been caught again he mumbled a few choice words and vowed to get his own back. After the rock incident at the deeps and now this we have given Valleyboyo the nickname 'sherpa' for his ability to carry things!!

A quiet session with not many bites but still nice to get out and for Wilba to have a session with the Danglers again, also fro Teggy to catch a fish after quite a few blanks!
