September 3rd - Magor
Valleyboyo and Barrelreef travelled East toward the mud of Magor to
fish for soles and early codling with friend of the Danglers Herbie.
Conditions were not the best for the day with a strong southerly wind being
a bit more than the light south westerly forecast. It was decided to carry on as planned as all the bait (lug/rag, mackerel
and peelers) was ready, and hope that the wind would ease.
We set our gear up after a little slip sliding through the mud and banged out our 1st casts.
It was clear that bites were going to be hard to detect in the wind unless it was a real good
'un.
On Barrelreef's 1st cast a little slip caused a badly mistimed cast with the lead and baited
trace landing 20 yards out and 40 yards to the left. It was left there while the overun was untangled.
After sorting it out Barrel reeled it in to recast only to find a lovely little sole chomping
on the lugworm, a 1st for Barrel. After a quick photo it was returned unharmed.
That sole turned out to be the only fish of the day for us although Valleyboyo had a codling
come off as it broke surface. we did see one guy to our right catch 5 good sole and a codling.
A quiet day with very few bites but a new species for Barrelreef.
