January 4th - Penarth beach
Fished the beach by the slip. Large tide with high water at 10.15pm. Plenty of codling to 1lb and small
whiting to lug/crab cocktails. Most fish were caught in the hour leading up to high water
Barrelreef - 5 codling, 3 whiting
Valleyboyo - Only 1 codling but the biggest at about 1lb
January 6th - Penarth pier
Got there early and Fished on the right hand corner, to avoid the wind.
Bait used were lugworm, ragworm, peeler crab, mackerel and squid.
Had plenty of bites and landed lots of small whiting and codling between 3 of us. Nothing in size though. Top
bait seemed to be lugworm tipped with suid or mackerel. Valleyboyo had the biggest again with a codling of 1 & 1/2 lb
Barrelreef - 3 codling, 2 whiting
Deejay - 3 codling, 2 whiting
Valleyboyo - 6 codling, 2 whiting
January 15th - Ogmore Estuary
Spent a few hours over low digging maddies in the mud....fished in the estuary from 4 hours before
high up to high and were hoping for some nice flounder.
Despite the fresh bait Valley boyo and Barrelreef both BLANKED
January 18th - Penarth beach
Barrelreef fished alone near the groynes to the left of the pier, high water 9pm, medium tide, cloudy, drizzly
rain. Baits used were lugworm, crab and squid.
Had 6 codling, none bigger than 1lb all caught on lug/squid cocktails
Barrelreef - 6 codling
January 22nd - Penarth beach (again)
Valleyboyo and myself (Barrelreef) had planned a trip to Mumbles pier but I slept in and I couldn't
wake Valleyboyo up (saturday night boozing - couldn't handle it). So I decided to head back to Penarth to use up the bait.
Got to the beach at around 930ish with high at 11.20am.
Fished for 4 hours and caught 2 codling and 1 rockling all of which were undersize. All fish were caught
on ragworm
Barrelreef - 2 codling, 1 rockling
January 24th - Birds foreshore
This one was arranged on the spur of the moment. High tide was at 1.15pm and we decided to go at 10.30am,
just time to get some bait, we got there at 11.15am. Fished with pulley pennels in the hope of catching some decent codling.
Lug, rag and squid were our baits. Valleyboyo had the 1st fish a codling of around 1/2lb just before high
then another smaller a bit later, both on rag. This was looking like a blanker for me but I managed a codling of around
1lb on the last cast, caught on a rag/lug/squid cocktail.
Barrelreef - Only 1 codling but biggest
Valleyboy - 2 codling
January 27th - Redwick ledges
Fished from an hour before low water with high water at 5.10pm. baits for the day were ragworm, lugworm,
squid and peeler crab. Cod/codling were the target so pulley pennels and big baits were the order of the day.
Barrelreef had the days 1st codling on his 1st cast a little one of a few ounces, and followed it
up with another a bit bigger on his 2nd cast, both to lug.
Valleyboyo then had a codling of around 3/4lb and Barrelreef had another 3 hours before high. Had lots more
bites but we struggled to hook fish with the amount of weed coming down the channel.
Also Barrelreef missed a good slack liner just before high.
Barrelreef - 3 codling
Valleybyo - 1 codling
